Patch-worked Levis: Haute Recessionist Style or Post-Hippie Weirdness?

Opinions were mixed the other day on The Sartorialist when these photos of cut-and-pasted Levis on Swedish model Filippa Berg appeared.

Comments ranged from “Love the jeans!” to “Eeeesh! Are people really trying to bring back the 70s?”

What do you think?

To be perfectly crude about it, if I had a backside like that, I'd wear whatever I felt like too! But the jeans strike me as a bit try-hard, to be honest. And not even interesting ...

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! My style completely; I am very bohemian. And who cares what decade one's fashion resembles. Today everything can be worn, if done with a sense of style. Furthermore, if you love wearing something and feel good in it, it will look great on you.
I think Filippa looks stunning!;)

Usually I don't quote the Bible about fashion, but sometimes... if the boho shoe fits...
I like the look!

I find the texture and color very pleasing, especially if I let myself forget that they're jeans, and just think of them as a textile that was used to make pants. Girlfriend has got amazing legs and lovely bottom, so she totally pulls it off! I'd probably give 'em a try if I had the opportunity.

Fine but not exciting. On the other hand, I'm all for jeans without holes - I'm so tired of that look. Hey, maybe people can sew patches over those holey ones they already own.

The jeans are fun and interesting. They look great on this model because she knows how to wear them. I would just look silly if I attempted to pull this off.

I like them! (She has the butt to wear them well.) Though it seems to me that we've already been reliving the 70s for quite some time in the fashion world. I suppose the designer version of these jeans would cost upward of $100.

That look takes me right back to oh, say...1977 or 78! I carried my schoolbooks in a bag just like it. Ha..ha...I wouldn't wat to dress like that now(nor could I pull it off)
I did note, too, that this model looks pointy, somewhat androgynous and very thin compared to the ..ahem.."plus-size" model Lizzie from your earlier blog entry. Of course, she may be that way naturally(I was like that when I was young).

I was just over at the Sart's leaving far too many messages - I see you like his Italian friend Simone too.

The jeans are not about bringing anything back. She has a nice bum, her jeans are cool and quirky and colourful. And memorable. I like them. At least she's unique.

The Sart was here in Toronto at a club not even 20 minutes from my place. I couldn't even imagine what to wear. Anyway an interview in the paper the next day revealed that he had made rather merry and all he wanted to talk about was how satisfied his new girlfriend was!

Wearable art reconstructs the past many times. I love them.

I can't do it. I even have a hard time wearing my one pair of holey jeans.

the 'patches' look too contrived for my taste. Not where you would expect holes from wear, and not in a particularly pleasing pattern. so for me, not attractive fashion, even if she has a great figure.

No, I don't think so. She's lovely, and would look so in anything, but I'm not wild about these. They seem a bit pretentious. And I really don't like the cigarette in her hand!

Argh! If I had a butt like that I wouldn't care what I put it in. Sadly, I do not...
