Flowers de la Semaine and Doggies in Winter White

novemberdoggies4

Clover and Riley/Vanna White Dog are here to say hello and we have not forgotten about you!

The flowers in this photo cost me practically nothing at the florist down the street.  They have a fantastic deal in which you get six free roses if you go in wearing your bike helmet.  I love that they promote and reward sustainable transportation this way.  Aren’t those peachy-pink roses great?

(Clover and Riley think so, too.)

The rest of our family are busy getting Hubby/Dad ready for his impending move to Nevada, which is happening in two weeks.  Much scurrying about and travel plans being made.  SeeSpotRun and I will spend a week there at the end of November.

Do you think they have good thrift stores in Las Vegas?

In the meantime, I’ve been indulging in a purely selfish creative pursuit that involves lots of second hand wool sweaters, hand sewing, and wardrobe refashioning.  It’s keeping me sane to have something in my hands to stab and poke with a needle, something I can control, something colorful and natural and recycled to throw energy into when everyone else is asleep.

More about that in the future, but for now, thanks again to all of you dear friends in blogland who left kind comments to my last post. I’m slowly getting around to visiting all of you and enjoying all your news and thoughts.

XO,

sallymandy

What a lovely way to promote helmet-wearing.

I've been thinking of you and am happy to see this pot- things are moving forward.

Fun to imagine all the amazing things you might find in Vegas thrift shops!

Always love the sweet doggie pics!
;^) Yes, LOVELY roses!

I'll bet that there are great thrift stores somewhere in Las Vegas. :^)
They're probably not right on the main "strip" though.
;^)
I wish you were going to Reno, instead! ;^) (That's where I grew up and my favorite Aunt and Uncle still live there...) When you get tired of all the downtown stuff, you can be in the mountains in any direction in 30 minutes or so!!!
It's beautiful. ;^)
It's a LONGGGGGGG way from Vegas!

Good to hear from you again and to know you are well. Sounds like you are busy - and creatively so . . . I will look forward to seeing your new creations.

Hi! Nice to hear from you this morning. Cute doggies! And free flowers are somehow prettier, aren't they?
Hope all is well with your transition. I can't imagine how tough the original decision to go through with it must have been. My husband once had a job for about two years that kept him away from home 2 or 3 weeks at a time and we didn't like that at all. (Thirteen years later, I sometimes wish he'd take a 3 week vacation-without me-but that's not what we're talking about, is it?)
I'm sure Vegas has some good thrifting... maybe out toward the newer, tonier suburbs like Summerlin. Good luck, hope it's good shopping, and have fun with your new-found distraction.

Lovely roses!

I also like your description of the craft project and how it helps to be in control of something...I totally relate to that these days!

Wonderful to see a post -- you've been missed :)

If I don't have something to work on when I finally sit down - I go crazy. So I totally understand what you are doing. And I understand how it's keeping you from going bonkers during all of this.

As for good thrift stores in Las Vegas. I believe the pawn shops is where you might want to head. Saw a ton of stuff that just boggled my mind when I was there. All for the sake of a little more gambling money. Sad.

I can only imagine the glamourous stuff you are going to find in Vegas thrift stores [are there really such places?]

I swear Westies are the sweetest, prettiest, cleverest dogs. Milou sends a Hi there to your cuties.

Thrift stores in Vegas? My niece lives there and I'll be seeing her at Thanksgiving. I'll ask.

Gorgeous flowers! And it's good to hear that you're doing creative things to get you through what must be testing times. Stabbing and poking can be very therapeutic!

Here in England I find the best charity shops in the nicer areas of any city I visit. I'm assuming this would likely be true of Vegas. There may be other sources of info, but I quickly Googled and found this map about crime rate
http://www.donohueteam.com/Crime/index.html
If I were you I'd look for thrift stores with zip codes in the green areas of the map!

I do hope you'll show us what wardrobe refashioning you're doing with old sweaters. I've got a stack of them and will have to either use them or get rid of them soon. Look forward to seeing that -- and don't lose your shirt at the casinos!

What a great florist! I loved hearing this wonderful idea. This way that they promote something they believe in. Plus, the flowers (and the dogs) are just gorgeous.

Oh so sweet! your dogs and flowers. That is such a great idea, I love it, a bicycle helmet!

I am the same as you, stiching and creating, gives such a sense of peace and fullfillment. I love the whole repurposing idea, I like to do that too. It is a great moneysaver, landfill saver. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

good luck with the move,
take good care Sallymandy,

I love your flower shop. What a fantastic idea -- offering something for free to someone doing something good for the environment.

Good luck over the next couple of weeks. There are some great outlet stores in Vegas and and I'm sure some fantastic second hand shops.

You're moving to Las Vegas? Must catch up on last post.

Sweet pictures!! Your doggies are so adorable, I want one like that.

Will you be showing us some of your wardrobe refashionings? It sounds like fun.

Being able to stay creatively busy helps to get through unsettling times, and surrounding yourself with some beauty. You've got the right moves. The bicycle helmet idea is wonderful!

I know what you mean about having something in your hands you can control. I get like that with cleaning. When things have spun out of control, I clean like a madwoman!

Hope all is well in your topsy-turvy world.
