When I was in grade 4 all I wanted to do was to write a book. So, I wrote story after story and kept them in an old shoe box. That box was one day thrown inadevertently away and my dream stopped then. However, as a 38 year old I have those same hopes and dreams of one day writing my book.

Oh, Sallymandy! My heart is flying, thank you! Perfect monday morning candy. I didn't sleep a wink, scared by the earthquake, feeling miserable, sleeplessly trying to figure out where my life is going and then.... this! perfect timing and very effective. Grazie

Short and so poignant.;)
Never to loose the childish innocence, imagination and will.
And always believe in the fact; that if you can dream it, you can do it.
Wishing you a wonderful Monday.;)))

Gosh. How powerful. I think we all struggle to find our place in the world. This reminds me to listen to the child within. With joy. And style. Spunk. And heart. (In order..1st pic, 2nd pic, 3rd pic...you!)

In Grade One we had books on careers in the back of the classroom. This is 1968. The books aimed at girls were, Teacher, Air Stewardess, Model!!! and Homemaker.

I do remember wanting to be a model and a flight attendant, a writer and a fashion designer. So far I'm 0 for 4.

I wanted to be a grandmama and an artist. (I had the greatest grandmama and I loved to draw and paint.) Maybe there is still time for both. Who knows?

I too wanted to write a book. So I'm working on it - because I believe in following your dreams.

I also want to live in New Orleans. I'm working on that too.

Oh my, how wonderful!

My earliest memory of wanting to "be" something was wishing to be a singer/dancer, like in the movie musicals I watched with my grandmother. I would dance around the house, singing, making it up as I went along.

My second, earliest memory, almost concurrent with the singer/dancer desire, was to be a writer, to "make books". I still hope to do that.

As for the singing & dancing? I was in rock bands from the ages of 12 - 28, so while it didn't fit the movie musical genre, lol, it is a version of my dream realized in some faint way. I have happy memories and few regrets :)

Thanks for this poignant and thought provoking post!

That's a tough one. But I sure would love to have that child's hair, center photo. Beautiful.

This is a terrific post! At my youngest ages, I wanted to be a teacher. Then, just about every glamorous thing you could name. Now, I simply want to strive for excellence - every day in every undertaking.

By the way, I ended up a teacher, a wife, a mother, and delighted about all of it.

These are great photos. Kids should be fiercely individual, to my mind. I foster my daughter's individuality every day.

Mervat: That's wonderful that you're pursuing your dream now.

Lola: All hearts go out to you this week, friend.

Protege: Thanks for your inspiring reminders.

Jane, Pyzahn and SSR: Thanks to all of you.

Clever: I remember books like that. Good thing we're smarter than they thought we were.

Modest: You have lots of time left!

aims: Like Mervat: I admire you for going after your dreams.

Kayleigh: I think that's enviable, that you were a singer. I daydreamed quite a bit about being one of a trio of backup singers.

Droll: that's so funny. I think those cabs within trucks are pretty cool.

Seeker and Ingrid: Thanks...I know I thought about it a lot this week.

Woman in a Window and Wanderer's Daughter: I did especially look for photos of kids who looked like individual people with their own minds and thoughts.

Relyn: Great, you got your wish in that way.
